Federal government announces the development of the Rouge National Urban Park in Pickering

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham, GTA, Politics, Toronto

The Rouge National Urban Park will be twice the size of central park in New York City and is within an hour’s drive for 7 million people. The Federal government announced its commitment to the park Friday, setting aside $145-million to develop the land in Pickering over the next 10 years. Finance Minister and Whitby Oshawa MP Jim Flaherty says while Parks Canada has developed many beautiful parks, this will be their first in an urban setting. Flaherty says the park will stretch from the moraine to Lake Ontario, and is named for the Rouge River which runs through it.
