Durham MPP says new bill would better protect cell phone customers

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Business, Durham, Politics

Legislation to make sure Ontarians understand their cell phone and wireless contracts is in the works at Queen’s Park. Durham MPP John O’Toole says Bill 82 was introduced recently, and would make sure the terms of a contract are spelled out in plain language and not what’s described as ‘legal-ese’. The wireless services agreements act also puts a proposed cap on the cost of cancelling a contract, and would limit the cost of walking away from a fixed-term contract. O’Toole says the bill, if passed, would also demand that ads providing all-inclusive prices would clearly show a customer’s total costs.
