Durham crime rates are down

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham

The crime rate in Durham region continues to get lower. Stats were released at a recent police services board meeting, and show both the crime rate and crime severity index have dropped over the past five years. Chair Roger Anderson says the figures are a credit to prevention efforts by officers. Last year, members of the crime prevention unit spent 10,000 hours working on projects, which include things like safety seminars and educational videos. Anderson says last year, officers also cleared 77 per cent of violent crimes.
