Motorists are being warned that the OPP will be targeting those not wearing seatbelts as part of a spring safety blitz. The campaign will last until Friday, and will focus on both drivers and passengers that are not buckled up. Anyone charged with an offence, faces a fine of $240 and two demerit points. Officers will also check for properly installed child restraints. Seatbelts have been deemed a factor in 71 deaths on provincial roads in 2011. Meanwhile, Durham Police are also continuing their seatbelt safety blitz in Clarington this week.
