For the second time in as many days, mercury has been found in Pickering. Durham Police say late Tuesday, a student found the substance on a hydro pole on Luna Court, just off Liverpool Road South, and reported it to a teacher at nearby Holy Redeemer Catholic School. The teacher then safely cleaned the pole and threw the cleaning items into a dumpster at the school. Officers are now there gathering evidence. On monday, mercury was found poured down a playground slide, at Kinsmen Park, just off Sandy Beach Road South. Both areas remain off-limits. Anyone with information is urged to call police at 905-579-1520, ext.2529 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
