Clarington investigates the possibility of banning train whistles
Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham
A number Clarington residents are divided on the issue of train whistles. Some have been fighting to have them banned at four rail crossings, including two in the Wilmot Creek are, while others claim they’re not only necessary for the safety of residents, but also a piece of heritage. Councillor Corinna Traill says the municipality isn’t ready to make a decision yet, but staff are looking at the issue. Traill says they’ll look at cost, and focus on the safety implications of banning the whistles. She says the report will likely be back within the next couple months. A 16 year old boy was recently killed at a train crossing in Oshawa, where whistles are already banned. Police have reported that he may have been listening to music or using a phone at the time.
