Health Minister Deb Matthews is defending a recommendation by a government panel to cut 121 registered nursing positions in Peterborough.Matthews told the legislature the Peterborough Regional Hospital has been running deficits for more than a decade.But the New Democrats warn patient services are being cut across the province as hospitals eliminate nursing positions in order to balance their budgets.
