SEVERAL WHITBY FAMILIES DISPLACED BY APARTMENT BUILDING FIRE

Posted by news | Filed under All News Stories, Durham

Amazingly, everyone made it out of an 18 unit low-rise apartment complex unscathed after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning.  The blaze caused extensive damage to 711 Dundas Street West, east of Cochrane.  Red Cross Disaster Management Coordinator Tara Sayer says they’ve been able to provide food, lodging and other basic needs to 43 people, affected by the fire.  Meanwhile, there’s no word yet on what may have caused the fire, which started around 1:00 am, but investigators are looking at construction that’s been taking place at the building.  Damage has been pegged at between $500,000 and $750,000.
