Now’s the time to put your winter tires on.
That’s the message from CAA and Spokesperson Kaitlynn Furse says preparing now could keep you out of the ditch later.
“What they [winter tires] do is they help you reduce the stopping distance and increase control on the roads,” explained Furse. “So it actually does improve your stopping distance by 25 per cent or two car lengths.”
She says that could be the difference between slamming into another car or not.
“It’s been proven to help with safety and control,” noted Furse. “It just gives you that extra confidence on the road on some of those more slippery days.”
Furse says winter tires grip the road better than all-seasons and summer tires.
She says it’s best to put them on by the end of the month at the latest.
Most insurance companies also offer a discount if you have four winter tires.
