Durham police use Taser and rubber bullets to apprehend man armed with large knife in Pickering

After a long standoff with a man holding a large knife in Pickering, Durham police were forced to use a Taser and rubber bullets to subdue him.

They say the tense situation began Sunday around 10 p.m. in a home in the Bayly Street and West Shore Boulevard area.

Officers tried to reason with the 30-year-old for hours, but he refused to drop the knife, began to utter threats and started to come towards them.

Police then deployed the Taser and rubber bullets and apprehended the man.

The man suffered minor injuries and was then taken to hospital for assessment.
